Ember spent the early years of her childhood playing in the woods and collecting bugs near her family's castle. When it came to career options, Ember and her brother Albert decided that he would be better suited to court and she would pursue the knightly path. Over a dozen years later Ember has just become a fully fledged knight after completing the mandatory rotation with the king's castle guards, and has gotten her first mission: she will accompany the crown prince in his quest to retrieve his new fiancée as a junior knight. Being the lowest ranked noble she is put in charge of managing the horses which suits her just fine - she prefers to care for them personally and give the squires a break. Taking the horses to the river to refresh them is what saves her life in the end, for it is then that the crown prince's party is killed by a dragon.
