Ember spent the early years of her childhood playing in the woods and collecting bugs near her family's castle. When her brother Albert ran away from the start of his squire training, Ember jumped into the role while Albert took her place as a maid-in-waiting in court.
Over a dozen years later Ember has just become a fully fledged knight after completing the mandatory rotation with the king's castle guards and making use of the Alliance's knight exchange program. Her first mission as a junior knight: accompany the crown prince's party in his quest to retrieve his new fiancée, and guide them through her home kingdom for the main stretch of the journey.
As the most inexperienced knight her main responsibility is taking care of the horses and doing laundry. When the party is attacked by a group of wild minions of the late Dark Lord, being away with the horses saves Ember's life, and brings her together with the crown prince, the only other survivor. Together they must make it safely across the country, on a hourney that gives Ember all the adventure and opportunity to study magical beasts she has ever wanted.
Ember is curious, reserved, hates being seen as flaky, and has a strong sense of justice. She likes big fauna and magical creatures, carrying with her a journal documenting any she comes across.
