The creation of the world
Once, there were seven siblings, who had the entirety of time and space to themselves. Together they played, and laughed, and fought. When two or more came together in joy, specks of brightness were created and hung around to glitter and shine, however when they fought, a thick roiling ball of darkness appeared that swallowed the little lights around them. As time passed they grew lonely, and wanted more being to play with, so the brightest of them had the idea to combine their energies and create a new life. And it was a beautiful life, bright and lively, full of spirit and fire! However, the arguments continued and jealousy spread, as everybody wanted to be the most beloved of the new playmate, and the resulting darkness threatened to tear the center of their attention apart. It needed protection.
The cleverest of the siblings had found a solution- each sibling would send a guardian made of solid matter to protect the little life, and them cover the resulting planet in a layer of liquid for extra protection. And so it was done. The guardians, each one different and specific to their creator settled around the life in a protective embrace, forging the seven continents. The life, although it was now protected, was removed from the seven siblings, and found tiny cracks in the guardians through which it sent out energy. So it could still talk to the siblings, but the filtering of its life combined with the guardian’s shells created something new on each surface. Tiny energies, like trees and animals, reproduced and covered land. However, the bigger cracks created something unique, different races infusing with the life’s own magical energies, some of which could think and act and form their own cultures.
So were created the intelligent and magical races that roam the earth.
Each of the siblings is one of the great seven deities of the world, who hung the stars in the skies and creates everything. They represent seven different aspects of the world
Magic: stands for shadows and safety, very venerated in the time during the dragon wars where humans built settlements underground.
Fire: the brightest of the seven stands for the sun and for life, often considered the most powerful. It is believed that dragons are the magical beings that sprang from this deity.
Time: represented by the moon and its cyclical phases, also stands for wisdom. If you want to find it, head towards the desert.
Ice: this is the deity of death and cold. Dabbling with the magics of this god is a great taboo
Water: stands for flowing water, change, and trade, a deity that brings great prosperity and conquest. From this being sprang the mermaids in the big sea.
Air: the deity of freedom, the skies, and everything that flies in them. Shared, but unconquered.
Earth: the sibling with the biggest embrace stands for sapience, the ground on which you stand on, and to which all bodies must eventually return to undisturbed.
Religion in society
All seven main gods are venerated with their own holy days and rituals, with an emphasis on the fire divinity who specially blessed the ancestors of the Larson royal family line. The deity of ice and death is sacred but also feared and the magics associated with death are considered taboo, especially if they interfere with the return of the body to the earth sibling.
Aside from the main seven there is also a series of other gods native to the planet, like the gods of justice, of lightning, of agriculture, of war, of medicine, weather, art, academia, trade, prophecy, luck, chaos and dreams, relationships, beauty, hunting, deception, technology, lies and secrets, travel, and plague. Some of these have guilds created around them, institutions that are half-guild and half religious orders with the higher ranking members being generally lower nobility.
A good example is the physician's order:
The physician's order or physician's guild takes care of all things medicine, healing, and body functions
The ones with black stay and take care of the temple proper, accept tithes and offerings, and regulate the medicinal potion's market, making it very difficult to sell your own remedies if you dont belong to the order or are backed by someone with power.
The lower row in brown are wandering physicians, they go out when someone calls for a doctor, and work in the (battle)field.
Apprentices are usually young, errand boys and 'hand me the tool' guys, work under a healer or doctor.
Healers work individually, they do magical and medical research, and you need to have a healing specific magic to be one.
Doctors have a great knowledge of anatomy, magic, and plants, they do operations and complex remedies
High Priests run a temple or an area, have a great connection to their magic and their god, and are called upon to bless health upon important figures and events. You neeed either a noble background or great magical talent to become one.
